the Bow and the Beautiful
My newest project is for a site called the Bow and the Beautiful. It will feature handmade bows, tutus, headbands, key chains, pacifiers, and many more DIY items. For the coming soon page, I used a bit of HTML5 and CSS3, along with Jquery.
I’m using an HTML5 reset theme for WordPress, which can be found here on Github. What has been really enjoyable is playing around with the jquery plugin called Lettering.js. It allows you to manipulate individual words or letters for fantastic results! With this, @font-face, and css3 you can create incredible web typography! Now it hasn’t been perfect, at least not for me. I was having issues with it not working if the desired words were wrapped in an h1 tag. The author has told me that no one else has had this problem, so I will have to experiment more with this when the main site goes live. I’m using a font called “Gabrielle” which is served up by the wonderful service of the Font Squirrel. I came up with a butterfly logo with using two “G’s” in the Gabrielle font. I’m using another Jquery plugin called Modernizr, which is to help make Internet Explorer play nice with HTML5 and CSS3. Mailchimp is handling the email signup form. CSS3 is providing some nice subtle colors and effects that I used to rely on Photoshop for. Unfortunately, I had to include a few extra images for IE in a separate stylesheet. Now I’m going to start to turn this into a full WordPress theme with blog and store!
